Korean Wedding Ducks

I receive many requests to make decoy urns, for both people and canines. This latest project represent almost the direct opposite, a celebration of marriage. I was unaware of the existence and symbolism of Korean wedding ducks until I had a client contact me and request a pair. They represent the lifelong commitment the couple has for each other, as well as prosperity and fidelity to each other. This pair of miniature Taiga Bean Geese are a species native to Korea. They mate for life, the gander protecting his mate and subsequent brood. A slightly aged look was given to the cedar carvings, with chip carved knife marks left in key areas of the decoys. Also a bit of whimsey was added with the green speckling between the carved feathers. Green often represents the groom, and orange or red the bride. I wanted to make sure to incorporate both colors throughout the piece. They are mounted on a section of 100 year old cedar planking from an old boat project I had undertaken. ( read blog post “you Can’t Save Them All”) I was very pleased with the way this project turned out and I wish the bride and groom a life full of love, laughter and prosperity.
