Suitcase Turkey Decoys: Feeding Hen and Semi Strut Jake
I’ve never been one to follow trends— I have always strived to create something timeless. This latest pair of Turkey decoys should accomplish just that. With a blend of creativity, functionality and style they will be here long after I'm gone.
A client contacted me early this spring to share his success hunting over one of my contented suitcase hens. Being a lifetime duck hunter he wanted a few more decoys to add to the turkey flock! He requested a hen in a complimentary position to his first, and a Male turkey, either Jake or Tom. I decided a semi-strut Jake would help sell the illusion, and I decided they should both be in my suitcase style. This allows for easy packable transport, and also affords extra protection to the heads. They are carved from two book matched pieces of wood each, hollowed out and hidden hinged. The heads and sticks store inside the hollow bodies. The hand stitched shoulder bags protect everything and make the ability to run and gun a breeze.
I generally make a handful of Turkey decoys every February, ordered by patient Turkey hunters the year before. These were a special Christmas order, and I think Santa’s elves would be proud!
I do have availability to make one more Turkey decoy for this spring, so if you’ve been considering one, now is the time to get it without the 12 month wait!
